Associate
I’ve recently qualified as an associate in Corporate Reorganisations. As a trainee, it was my favourite seat because it opened my eyes to an area of law that’s by its definition dynamic. It even took me on a trip to our New York office and this only added to my desire to pursue it as a practice.
Going to an entirely different jurisdiction and working from their perspective was a thrilling and formative experience for me. It helped prepare me for the most complex, global transaction I’ve encountered to date.
The Firm advised a major international construction company on an acquisition worth €5.3 billion. It was a huge, public deal with constantly moving parts in more than 60 countries. It’s easy to assume the law works the same in one jurisdiction as another. However, at times they can be worlds apart, and in the London office we learn how to coordinate them.
It was high-stakes work, but we supported one another. No matter how busy we got during crunch time, even senior team members would stop and spend time with me, explaining the trickier elements of liaising with local jurisdictions and coordinating documents. That’s vital because work of this nature is invaluable to a trainee. It exposes you to the crux of any deal.
