Trainee solicitor
Learning how to talk to clients and how they like to work takes time. However, it’s an essential skill to develop when working as a trainee in Corporate Finance.
Being supported by experienced associates and a partner in this practice area taught me how to mitigate and resolve potential issues. Soon, I had the opportunity to apply these lessons to a real deal. Our team supported a complex transaction, acting on behalf of an intermediary between an issuer and buyer of high-yield bonds.
A deal of this nature offers invaluable experience. We had to understand and manage the interests of multiple parties. We needed to act in the interests of the issuer and the buyer, while achieving a favourable outcome for the client.
The learning curve has been steep but incredibly rewarding. I learned at pace about regulations in various jurisdictions and built my interpersonal skills, allowing me to adapt fast to how different clients prefer to work.
If you show a desire for ownership and a commitment to high-quality work, it doesn’t take long for trust and responsibility to follow. When you adopt that mindset, you’ll excel faster in this Firm.
