The first week of our Vacation Scheme began this Monday and I was delighted to find I got my first choice seat in IP.
Aside from assessment days this was my first experience in a commercial law firm so I was understandably a little apprehensive. I need not have been though as I was met with such a warm welcome.
Day one seemed to have the most packed schedule of the week, with several training sessions. It was by no means all work though, a welcome breakfast and a three course lunch also featured in the day! The lunch was a great way to meet my Trainee buddies in an informal setting.
Day two was the first day in my department and, after adjusting to my new surroundings I began helping my Trainee buddy with some pro bono work. Throughout the week my focus has shifted between this and doing some research for a talk due to be given by members of the IP team later this month. It’s wonderful to be able to contribute, especially as both tasks have been so different.
On Thursday we were fortunate enough to have lunch with the Managing Committee. This was a very unique opportunity to hear how they envisage Baker McKenzie developing. I was struck by how friendly and open they were.
I’m very much looking forward to my second week!
