My work in Pensions at Baker McKenzie offers me real variety. It’s a combination of research tasks, drafting pension documentation, and assisting with larger corporate transactions. I've been involved with some business development activities the department carries out too.

Best in class

There’s a huge amount of expertise across the whole Firm and everyone is so approachable. Whether it’s Pensions, Disputes or Corporate, there’s a wide range of different client work to get your teeth stuck into. Knowing that you’re working alongside lawyers who are the best in their class is a really exciting prospect as a Trainee.

Highlights to date

For me, there are two standout moments. One was completing a piece of highly technical research on overseas pension schemes and seeing it distributed to clients. The other was being encouraged early on to get involved with CSR, pro bono and general learning and development activities. I've attended some really helpful training on time management and presentation skills, which I know will be really applicable throughout my career.

Getting involved

I’m part of the social committee, and help to arrange regular office wide events. This has exposed me to national events, such as LGBT Pride. The principles that underpin Baker McKenzie are all about supporting what’s right and having a positive impact. I like to think the work I’m doing reinforces those values too.
