International appeal

My first real experience of Baker McKenzie was in Vienna. I was in Austria for a year as part of my degree course and, although I had heard of the Firm, I didn’t quite realise how popular it was, particularly abroad. As a language lover, that international reach really appealed to me, so almost as soon as I got back from my year away I applied for a vacation scheme at the Firm. The good things I had heard from the outside turned out to be true inside, too. Everyone was very welcoming and I got the chance to work on some challenging projects – even in that short time.

Early responsibility

I was offered a training contract soon after the Vacation Scheme and, since joining, I’ve been surprised at just how quickly I’ve been given responsibility on various projects. For example, I was given a major role in a small team working on a large acquisition just a few months into the role. That involved leading the due diligence process, liaising with different departments and speaking directly to the client.

It’s this kind of exposure – and the talented people here - that has enabled me to learn and develop more quickly than I could ever have expected.

The social side

From bowling to karaoke, the social events at Baker McKenzie allow everyone to relax after their hard work. I’ve even been to Brussels to represent the Firm’s London office in our European football tournament, where I got the chance to meet loads of colleagues from all over the world. I’m already in training to make the team for next year’s tournament in Milan!

Now you’ve met some of our people, we hope you’re ready to apply. Alternatively, you can carry on exploring.
